Life Reflections

Farewell 2025, Hello 2026

So 2025 is ending and the new year is ahead of us. So I figured I get the chance to write a 'Reflecting Water of Thought' list that is subjective. so I could be entirely wrong on what I've learn over the years. This list is both solo rpgs and personal stuff. So let's get started!

The Reflecting Water of Thought :

  • Solo-play establishes your Play-Style: Oracles, writing, improvisation, preparations and just about any method you could think of. This can even apply to systems you've gain knowledge of. The researching I've done exploring the hobby help me ask the important questions for my enjoyment later on in life. Pits & Perils to me was a fascinating game. A bit of an exaggeration, but it was something I finally found that I could no longer need another system. A 2d6 system with grid paper dungeons and wilderness. Also a simplified character creation and magic system. everything else is second nature to me. House-ruling also has the strength to prolong that enjoyment. Most of the time i like to write things down on paper and draw maps. Technology to me feels like space taking up the gaming table.
  • Reading is important, whether hobby-related or not: Picking up a book like Kull: Exile of Atlantis or Dragonlance: Dragons of Winter Night. It keeps me away from technology and fuels my imagination with new ideas I never thought of applying. While we could say our imaginations are powerful. As someone who struggles scrolling through my phone 24/7 ruins that experience. Learning math in RPGs also is the challenge. Pulling out a calculator and not just thinking quickly. Every small bit of knowledge like that could make the experience enjoyable. Instead of thinking about 30% of 300 gp during the game.
  • Consistency is key to fulfillment: Driving a vehicle is not an easy thing to do. I've always put it aside to avoid life's problems. though I did begin driving mid-December and recall the things I've learn from a booklet my teacher gave me after high school graduation. A handy reminder that I could achieve a goal if I avoid nihilism from online. This could sort of apply to solo RPGs. I've sort of tossed a lot of ideas into the bin. Things I could've kept and say 'what if I changed something here?'. It's especially when I want to reach domain level play in OSR games. however been stuck in low-level play unable to think of the wilderness. One big world is what can be the next change to play in.

I think that's all I could highlight from this year. The rest of everything is personal from my end. Hope y'all have a good new years and roll those Nat 20s!
